What does the deposits calculator calculate?
The deposits calculator is an online tool that calculates interest, final amount, and yield for bank deposits. The calculator supports both simple and compound interest calculations, taking into account periodic interest capitalization (monthly, quarterly, or annual). The calculator shows the final amount you will receive after the deposit term expires, the accrued interest, and the annual yield as a percentage. This tool is useful for individuals who want to compare different deposit offers from banks, plan their savings, and understand how interest rates affect the final amount. It helps you make informed decisions about where to place your money and maximize your savings returns.
How to use the deposits calculator?
Using the deposits calculator is very simple. Follow these steps:
- Enter the initial deposit amount: Enter the amount you plan to deposit in BGN.
- Enter the annual interest rate: Enter the annual interest rate offered by the bank in percentage.
- Set the deposit term: Enter the deposit term in months or years.
- Select the type of interest: Choose between simple interest or compound interest (with capitalization).
- Calculate: Click the "Calculate" button to get the results.
- Review the results: View the final amount, accrued interest, and annual yield.
After calculating the deposit yield, you can compare offers from different banks through our partner CREDiPORT.
Example with specific numbers
Example: Deposit of 10,000 BGN, 4% annual interest, 12 months (1 year), compound interest with monthly capitalization
- Initial amount: 10,000 BGN
- Annual interest rate: 4% (monthly interest: 4% ÷ 12 = 0.333%)
- Term: 12 months (1 year)
- Interest type: Compound (monthly capitalization)
- Final amount: ~10,407 BGN (calculated using compound interest formula)
- Accrued interest: 10,407 - 10,000 = ~407 BGN
- Annual yield: (407 / 10,000) × 100 = ~4.07%
With simple interest, the final amount would be 10,000 + (10,000 × 4%) = 10,400 BGN. Compound interest gives a slightly higher yield thanks to monthly capitalization.
Sources and notes
The calculator uses standard formulas for simple and compound interest, which are used by banks in Bulgaria. The compound interest formula takes into account periodic interest capitalization (monthly, quarterly, or annual). Real interest rates can vary depending on the bank, the deposit amount, the term, and market conditions. Interest rates on deposits are usually lower than inflation, which means that the real purchasing power of money may decrease over time. For the most current interest rates and offers, always consult directly with banks.

Frequently Asked Questions about Deposits Calculator
What is the difference between simple and compound interest?
With simple interest, interest is calculated only on the initial amount. With compound interest, interest is calculated on the initial amount plus accumulated interest from previous periods, which leads to higher yield.
What is interest capitalization?
Capitalization is the process where accrued interest is added to the principal, and in subsequent periods interest is calculated on the larger amount.
What is the maximum insured amount for a deposit?
In Bulgaria, deposits are insured up to 196,000 BGN per depositor and bank by the Deposit Insurance Fund.
Can I withdraw money from the deposit before the term expires?
It depends on the type of deposit. Term deposits usually do not allow early withdrawal without loss of interest or fees. Check the conditions of the specific bank.
