What does the fuel cost calculator calculate?

The fuel cost calculator is an online tool that calculates fuel costs for car trips. The calculator shows how many liters of fuel are needed for a given distance, how much the trip costs, and what the cost per 100 km is. The calculator works with the car's fuel consumption (liters per 100 km), fuel price, and distance, and automatically calculates all indicators. This is useful for planning trips, comparing costs between different cars, evaluating car economy, and making informed decisions about car purchases or route selection. The calculator helps you plan your travel budget and optimize fuel costs.

How to use the fuel cost calculator?

Using the calculator is very simple. Follow these steps:

  1. Enter the distance: Enter the distance in kilometers you plan to travel.
  2. Enter fuel consumption: Enter the car's fuel consumption in liters per 100 km (usually specified in the manual or you can measure it).
  3. Enter fuel price: Enter the price per liter of fuel (gasoline, diesel or gas) in BGN.
  4. Calculate: Click "Calculate" and the calculator will show the results.
  5. Review the results: View required liters, cost per 100 km, and total trip cost.

Example with specific numbers

Example: Trip from Sofia to Varna (450 km) with a car consuming 7 l/100 km, gasoline 2.50 BGN/l

  • Distance: 450 km
  • Fuel consumption: 7 l/100 km
  • Fuel price: 2.50 BGN/l
  • Required liters: (450 ÷ 100) × 7 = 31.5 l
  • Cost per 100 km: 7 × 2.50 = 17.50 BGN
  • Total trip cost: 31.5 × 2.50 = 78.75 BGN

For a round trip from Sofia to Varna (900 km total), fuel costs will be approximately 157.50 BGN. If the car consumes 5 l/100 km instead of 7 l/100 km, costs will be 112.50 BGN, which is a savings of 45 BGN.

Sources and notes

The calculator uses a simple formula for calculating consumption: Required liters = (Distance ÷ 100) × Consumption per 100 km. Trip cost is calculated as: Required liters × Price per liter. Cost per 100 km shows how much it costs to travel 100 km and is a useful indicator for comparing the economy of different cars. It's important to note that actual consumption may differ depending on driving style, car load, road conditions, and weather conditions. For accurate calculations, we recommend measuring the actual consumption of your car under different conditions.

How to determine my car's fuel consumption?

Consumption is usually specified in the car manual or you can measure it by dividing liters used by kilometers traveled and multiplying by 100.

What is the average fuel price?

Fuel prices vary by type (gasoline, diesel, gas) and region. Check current prices at gas stations in your area.

How to use cost per 100 km?

Cost per 100 km is a useful indicator for comparing costs between different cars. Lower cost means a more economical car.

Does the calculator include other costs?

No, the calculator calculates only fuel costs. For a full trip cost estimate, add costs for highway vignettes, parking, and maintenance.

How to reduce fuel costs?

Use a more economical car, maintain proper tire pressure, drive smoothly, and avoid aggressive acceleration and braking.
