What does the loan calculator calculate?
The loan calculator is an online tool that calculates monthly loan payments, total interest, and the amortization schedule for loan repayment. The calculator uses the standard annuity payment formula, which is used by most banks in Bulgaria. This formula ensures equal monthly payments throughout the repayment period. The calculator is useful for individuals who want to take out a loan and want to understand the financial implications, for those who want to compare different loan offers, and for anyone who wants to plan their budget and understand how loan payments affect their finances. It helps you make informed decisions about borrowing and choose the best loan offer for your needs.
How to use the loan calculator?
Using the loan calculator is very simple. Follow these steps:
- Enter the loan amount: Enter the loan amount in BGN in the corresponding field.
- Select the interest rate: Choose the annual interest rate in percentage (this can vary depending on the bank and your creditworthiness).
- Set the repayment term: Enter the repayment period in months (usually from 12 to 360 months).
- Calculate: Click the "Calculate" button to get the results.
- Review the results: View the monthly payment, total interest, total amount to repay, and the amortization schedule.
After calculating your monthly payment, you can compare real offers from banks through our partner CREDiPORT.
Example with specific numbers
Example: Loan of 10,000 BGN, 8% annual interest, 60 months (5 years)
- Loan amount: 10,000 BGN
- Annual interest rate: 8%
- Repayment term: 60 months (5 years)
- Monthly payment: ~205 BGN (calculated using annuity formula)
- Total amount to repay: ~12,300 BGN
- Total interest: ~2,300 BGN (the difference between total amount and principal)
In the first month, out of the ~205 BGN payment, about 67 BGN goes to interest, and the remaining 138 BGN goes to principal. With each subsequent payment, the principal portion increases, and the interest portion decreases.
Sources and notes
The loan calculator uses the standard annuity payment formula, which is used by most banks in Bulgaria. The formula ensures equal monthly payments throughout the repayment period. Real interest rates can vary depending on the bank, your creditworthiness, the type of loan, and market conditions. We recommend always consulting with the bank for exact terms and interest rates before taking out a loan. The calculator does not include additional fees, commissions, or insurance that some banks may charge.
