Compound Interest Calculator

Final value with compound interest

Enter principal, rate and years.

Methodology

  • Final = P × (1 + r/100)^n; r annual % rate, n years
  • Annual percent rate is divided by 100 for the coefficient

Example

€1 000 · 5% · 10y → ≈€1 628.89 (also: 1 000 · 5% · 2y → €1 102.50).

Frequently asked questions

With compounding, each period’s interest is added to the base so the next interest is calculated on a larger amount. With simple interest on a fixed principal, you do not get that “interest on interest” in the same textbook way. The tool asks for compounding frequency because, at the same nominal rate and term, frequency changes the ending balance.
