Euro cash inventory
This tool splits an euro amount into counts of notes and coins. All math uses integer cents, so there is no floating-point drift. The full euro set is available; €100 and €200 are off by default and enabled via checkboxes.
Greedy vs random
Greedy always prefers the largest allowed denominations — a standard till-style split. Random produces a different valid inventory each time with the same total — useful for practice or a more mixed note set.
How to use
- Enter the amount in euros (up to two decimals).
- Choose greedy or random mode.
- Enable €100 / €200 if your till stocks them.
- In random mode, press “New breakdown” for another split.

Frequently asked questions
What is a greedy breakdown?
Greedy mode always takes as many of the largest allowed denomination as possible, then the next, and so on. For a given amount and enabled notes/coins the result is deterministic — the classic “prefer large notes” split.
What is a random breakdown?
Random mode picks a valid count for each denomination from large to small; any remainder is filled with smaller coins down to 1 cent. The total always matches the amount exactly. Use “New breakdown” for another valid split.
Why are €100 and €200 optional?
Many tills and ATMs rarely stock €100 and €200 notes. They are off by default so the list uses more common denominations; turn the checkboxes on when those notes are available.
Does the total always match exactly?
Yes. All math uses integer cents (no floating-point drift), and 1 cent is always available, so any amount rounded to two decimals has an exact breakdown.
What is this calculator for?
