Three different “interest” problems on one site

Savings interest, loan interest, and statutory late-payment interest follow different rules and calculators. This page is a map of which tool to open first.

Deposits: nominal rate vs what you actually earn

Banks advertise an annual rate, but capitalization (monthly, quarterly), fees, and fixed vs variable terms all matter. The deposit calculator helps compare end balances under compound interest. Treat any example numbers as illustrations only.

Loans and mortgages: the installment is not the whole story

A lower monthly payment can hide a longer term and higher total interest. Use the loan calculator and mortgage calculator to inspect amortization—how each payment splits into principal vs interest—especially if you plan early repayments.

Late-payment interest (NAF)

Delayed taxes or social contributions accrue interest under Bulgarian rules. Start from the official NAF interest calculators; involve a professional for disputes or large balances.

Simple vs compound interest

Simple interest accrues on the original principal only. Compound interest adds accrued interest to the base for the next period. Most retail banking products use compound interest with a stated capitalization frequency.

Practical tips

  • Compare effective annual rates, not only headline percentages.
  • For loans, look at total interest paid over the life of the contract.
  • For late payments, keep proof-of-payment timestamps.
