How sick-leave pay is split

For temporary incapacity after 31 Dec 2023, the employer pays the first two working days at 70% of average daily gross for that month. From the third working day, NSSI pays 80% of average daily insurable income over the prior 18 months (90% for work accident / occupational disease).

This tool is an estimate: it splits employer vs NSSI using your entered average daily insurable income. It does not replace a medical certificate or an NSSI order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who pays the first days of sick leave?

For incapacity starting after 31 Dec 2023, the employer pays the first two working days at 70% of the average daily gross for that month (Social Security Code art. 40(5)). From the third working day, NSSI pays.

What percentage does NSSI pay?

General disease: 80% of average daily insurable income over the prior 18 calendar months. Work accident / occupational disease: 90% (art. 41).

Is there a minimum insurance period?

General disease requires at least 6 months of sickness/maternity insurance. This does not apply under age 18 or for work accident / occupational disease.

Why enter average daily insurable income separately?

The employer share uses the month’s gross. The NSSI share uses the 18-month average daily insurable income — one current salary is not enough for an exact NSSI figure.

Is the result official?

No. It is an estimate. NSSI sets the final amount from your insurance file, net-wage cap (general disease), schedules and medical certificates.

Working days or calendar days?

Benefits for standard schedules are paid for working days in the incapacity period. This calculator uses working days only.
