How to calculate fuel cost for a long trip — a practical guide
Fuel cost for long drives: worked examples for popular Bulgaria routes, formulas, and saving tips. Link to the fuel calculator.
Long-trip fuel cost calculation needs distance, real L/100km consumption, and price per litre. This guide uses Sofia–Varna (~450 km), Sofia–Plovdiv (~150 km), and Sofia–Bansko (~165 km) with sample numbers.
Formulas
Litres = (km ÷ 100) × L/100km. Cost = litres × price. Try our fuel cost calculator.
Sofia–Varna sketch
450 km at 7.5 L/100km → 33.75 L. At €1.85/L → about €62.4 one way.
Saving fuel
Tyre pressure, smooth driving, removing roof boxes, and moderate motorway speeds all cut consumption.
