Budget Report.

About 5–10 minutes

Twelfth class — Data finale. Three report functions:

totalSpent(items) — sum of amount
filterCategory(items, category) — filter by category
remainingBudget(income, items) — income minus totalSpent(items)

Sample food 40 + rent 60 + food 15 totals 115; with income 200, 85 remain.

Common mistake: filtering but not returning the array; or remainingBudget subtracting only the first item.

Your lesson

Given: income = 200 and sample = [{ amount: 40, category: "food" }, { amount: 60, category: "rent" }, { amount: 15, category: "food" }]. Write totalSpent(items), returning the sum of amount; filterCategory(items, category), returning all matching records; and remainingBudget(income, items), returning income minus the total. Call them with sample and print: 115; the two food records (40 and 15); 85. For empty input, the sum is 0, the filter returns [], and the remaining budget equals income. Functions must also work with other data.

You combine sum, filter, and remaining into one API.
